Larson Electronics LEDT5-48-G5-BLST 12W LED Bulb – T5 – Ballast Compatible – 4 Foot Replacement or Upgrade for Fluorescent Light Fixture

Description:

The LEDT5-48-G5-BLST from Larson Electronics is a 12 watt T5HO-series LED tube lamp that is an excellent choice for upgrading existing fluorescent lamp fixtures to LEDs as well as a direct replacement for our own LED light fixtures. This replacement LED bulb is ballast friendly. It is equipped with a special driver that allows it to work with a fluorescent ballast with no need for ballast removal or wiring around the ballast and also works with no ballast at all.

The LEDT5-48-G5-BLST produces 1,500 lumens, works with T5HO fluorescent light fixtures, is available in 4 foot lengths, and requires no ballast to operate. The lightly frosted lens diffuses the light and makes this bulb ideal for food safe environments as there is no glass. The aluminum housing serves as a heat sink and provides rigidity and strength for this LED bulb. LED light tubes can also be plugged directly into fluorescent light fixtures with magnetic ballasts, which make them an ideal upgrade for older T5HO fluorescent lights with magnetic ballasts.

LED Benefits: Unlike gas burning and arc type lamps that have glass bulbs, LEDs have no filaments or fragile housings to break during operation and/or transportation. Instead of heating a small filament or using a combination of gases to produce light, light emitting diodes (LEDs) use semi-conductive materials that illuminate when electric current is applied, providing instant illumination with no warm up or cool down time before re-striking. Because there is no warm up period, this light can be cycled on and off with no reduction in lamp life.

LED lights run at significantly cooler temperatures than traditional metal halide and high pressure sodium lights and contain no harmful gases, vapors, or mercury, making them both safer and more energy efficient. No extra energy is wasted in cooling enclosed work areas due to external heat emissions from bulb type lights, and the operator risks associated with traditional lighting methods, such as accidental burns and exposure to hazardous substances contained in the glass bulbs, are eliminated. In addition, LEDs are also safer for the environment as they are 100% recyclable, which eliminates the need for costly special disposal services required with traditional gas burning and arc type lamps.

Ballast Compatible Design: In fluorescent light fixtures with electronic ballasts, the operator usually needs to bypass the ballast and wire the power directly to the LED tube (black wire to one pin and white wire to the other). That is not the case with the LEDT5-48-G5-BLST model of lamps. These T-series LED tube lamps contain special drivers that allow them to work with fluorescent ballasts with no damage to the LED. Operators do not need to wire around the existing ballasts during installation which saves both time and money. However, they do not require a fluorescent ballast and work equally as well without a ballast at all. Ballast compatible LED lamps also handle heat better because they do not have an internal driver.

These LED fluorescent tube replacements can be used as upgrades or replacements to our own Larson Electronics.com explosion proof fluorescent lights, explosion proof paint spray booth lights as well as any other T5HO series light fixture the operator already has in house. They can be used as replacements in standard fluorescent light fixtures. Installation of ballast compatible LED lamps is the same process as replacing one fluorescent lamp with another. Operators simply swap the old fluorescent bulb with a compatible LED version.

Ballast Compatible Bulb Considerations: Some considerations must be taken into account when making the decision to update from fluorescent to LED lamps. While ballast compatible LED lamps are compatible with existing fluorescent ballasts with no need for any rewiring, they do still rely upon functioning ballasts to work. In other words, if the fluorescent ballast fails, the upgraded LED lamp will not emit light until the ballast is replaced.

Despite the downside of still relying on the fluorescent ballasts, ballast compatible LED lamp upgrades are still a great decision for operators looking to start small while working towards a full LED upgrade and all of the benefits LED lamps offer such as instant on functionality, longer lamp life expectancy, and lower power draws. Upgrading to ballast compatible LED bulbs offers all of those benefits without the cost of hiring an electrician to completely rewire the fixtures.

If you want to completely eliminate the headache of electronic ballasts and start a complete LED upgrade, Larson Electronics has you covered with our selection of non-ballast compatible LED lamps such as the LEDT5HO-48-V2, LEDT8-28W-V1, LEDT8-24-V1, LEDT8-36-V1, or LEDT5HO-24-V2. Although these lamps do require rewiring, they offer the immense benefits of LED lamps once the upgrade is complete.
